Many forms of Irish dance have been in existence for centuries in Ireland. They have been performed in the great halls of noble castles, and in early villages they were an integral part of important events such as christenings, weddings and wakes. Many a dance made its way into the Irish country houses and when the house wasn’t big enough for the crowd they would head to the barn. Neighbors would gather at the crossroads on Sundays to relax and enjoy the pure pleasure one derives from dancing to the rhythmic beat of an ancient or not so ancient piece of music being played mostly on accordion or fiddle. The music was handed down in the oral tradition just as the dance was. This is how it is here at the Catskills Irish Arts Week.

Join us for another Great Barn Dance here at the Catskills Irish Arts Week and help celebrate this part of the Irish Heritage in a fun filled evening.

On hand to guide everybody through the evening will be Set Dancer Padraig McEneany with Step dancers Donny Golden, Regan Wick, Bernadette Fee and Micheal Farrell. Kieran Jordan will take you through the patterns in Sean Nós Dance.

There will be no shortage of musicians or ceili bands for the evening. The Pride of Moyvane with Margie Mulvihill , her husband John Reynolds and their guests will host the evening with top class music. Billy McComiskey, Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch, Patty Furlong, Linda Hickman, Iris Nevins, Doug Barr are to name but a few of the extraordinary musicians who will make this another magical experience for all.

Everybody welcome. Bring the dancing shoes, Bring the Kids, Bring the Grandparents too.
